Read a good post by Debra Kaufman on MobilizedTV about adult content on mobile. The post stems from a news article where CBS’ iPhone app, CBSeyemobile, had pornographic content uploaded by one of its users.
“Karl Johnson, chief operating officer of BrandContent, a Boston-based agency, uploaded the app last night and saw a picture of a young woman bent over her kitchen stove, her skirt hiked up. Later he saw video of three women performing sexual acts on one another.”
Sounds pretty hot. Personally I would have kept it on the app but I guess Karl had to put the kibosh on it. Here is my point: Porn doesn’t need the App Store to go mobile. Getting porn on your mobile is incredibly easy with Safari for the iPhone. We’ve seen a ton of sites (many of them spamming QB) that have optimized their site for iPhone. So regardless of whether the App Store will ever allow porn is a non-issue. The porn is already here. Now it’s just a matter of who has the best porn site for the iPhone.
Now in terms of other platforms: if you have any open web browsing you’re fine. The only phones that will never have good porn content are the carrier locked devices such as the RAZR and the LG Chocolate. These phones will never make it passed the walled garden and sales of them are going to plummet accordingly. We’ve seen the other side of the wall, and it’s too glorious to go back.
