iPhone proximity sensor for gaming

The iPhone has a variety of sensors including a light sensor, proximity sensor and the obvious orientation sensor. These sensors help with the daily use of the iPhone, but are all these sensors being used by gaming companies? I’ve taken the time to write a couple of ideas for games that I think would be really fun, and would use the proximity sensor.
The proximity sensor prevents you from accidentally interacting with the screen while the iPhone is pressed against your ear. At about 0.75-inches away, the sensor switches off the display. when you pull away about an inch, the screen switches back on. Here is how this technology can be used for apps and gaming.

hand over iphone

Hold Steady

This game simply requires you to keep a steady hand above the iPhone. As long as your hand remains in the same place, not too far from the phone, but not close enough to touch, you’re scoring points. Think of it like the “hold the button” game that’s on the App Store right now.

iphone shaver

Shaving

This uses the proximity sensor to emit a buzzing sound like an electric razor, when you put the phone close to your face. All you need is a graphic and you’ve got a fake shaver.

iphone-whack-a-mole

Whack-a-Mole style game

With the proximity sensor you can create a variety of Whack-a-Mole style games. Something flashes on the screen and your hand setting off the proximity sensor is what triggers the score. For example, you could have various characters showing up on the screen but only 1 of them requires you to put your hand over the phone’s sensor. Choose the right one and your score! Choose the wrong one and you lose.

Has anyone out there found a game that uses the proximity sensor?
