Enhanced Google Mail plug-in for BlackBerry impressions

Earlier this week, RIM and Google launched the Enhanced Google Mail plug-in for BlackBerry which allows users to access Google Mail from within the BlackBerry Messages folder.

Also, rumor has it that the features associated with the Enhanced Google Mail plug-in for BlackBerry will come standard with the BlackBerry Storm 2.

Some features that you’ll get with the Enhanced Google Mail plug-in include:

  • Add and remove labels and stars on email messages
  • Report spam email messages
  • Perform local and remote searches
  • Archive email messages
  • View related email messages as a single conversation (threaded view)

While the Enhanced Google Mail plug-in is a welcomed addition to BlackBerry, I personally won’t be using it. Google mail is a personal email account and my BlackBerry Messages folder is for work. Mixing the two is just bad for business. When I get an email in my message folder, I have an idea of what it’s going to be about. The same applies to my Google Mail app. By integrating the two, I’ve lost my ability to adequately separate business from pleasure.

That being said, try it out for yourself and let us know what you think!

To download the Enhanced Google Mail plug-in, you must have 4.5 or above and visit blackberry.com/gmail from your BlackBerry Browser.

UPDATE: Author added the wrong feature list. Updated.
