HTC Touch Diamond reviewed at Shiny Shiny

The lovely Susi over at Shiny Shiny has reviewed the HTC Touch Diamond and she is not impressed. Her biggest criticism was the performance is seriously affected by the Touch Flo system and it often takes too long to load.

I’m curious about whether she will redo the review and use the ROM released by xda developers. Here is our previous post regarding the ROM which is supposed to fix all the performance issues.

Altogether a good review of the product nonetheless.

HTC’s Touch Diamond sports Sprint wear

A user on the PPCGeeks forums has posted what appear to be the first pictures of the CDMA version of the HTC Touch Diamond. It’s no real surprise that this is coming to Sprint, there have been rumours about it for months now, but it’s always good to see some evidence to back up the rumors. From the blurry pictures we can see the TouchFLO 3D interface that was such a big hit with the GSM version, though it appears that there have been some Sprint customizations. So far not much is known about the specs, but from the underground buzz about it, we’ve heard it should be similar to its GSM counterpart. The user is also reporting that the Diamond would launch before the Touch Pro, even though it hasn’t hit the FCC yet. Since the GSM Diamond launched first that would make sense, and - according to phone Arena - the Pro’s FCC filing they saw yesterday requested confidentiality until October 19th.

The T-Mobile Shadow II by HTC to launch Q4 of this year

T-Mobile will be adding a Windows Mobile device to their UMA lineup - The T-Mobile Shadow II. For those who don’t know, UMA (unlicensed mobile access) is the technology that uses the 802.11 networks for voice, data and IMS/SIP applications. The device will be crafted by HTC and we’re hoping they’ll throw in some HTC Touch Diamond type magic into this new device. The Shadow II will be the first Windows Mobile-based UMA handset in the USA, with T-Mobile planning to launch the device in the fourth quarter of this year.

Bringing Manual Screen Rotation Back to the HTC Touch Diamond

As you may have heard, the Touch Diamond has removed the Screen Orientation options from the Screen control panel. This means that you cannot switch to landscape mode except in the programs that support the accelerometer screen orientation switching (like Album and Opera).

Learn how to fix this!

HTC Touch Diamond’s ‘flaw’ actually a useful feature

A lot of people have been complaining about a flaw in the new Touch Diamond. Apparently its screen shuts off very quickly after you make a call. Well, it turns out that’s actually part of a very intelligent feature according to the people at xda-developers. They say that when making a call the screen stays on if you leave the phone lying flat on a table. But, if you wait 10 seconds into the call, you can pick it up to your ear and the screen stays on. If you make a call with the phone slightly tilted/slanted, the screen turns off as soon as the call gets connected. The moment you hold the phone to your head the screen turns off. In fact: the moment you cover the screen with anything it turns off. When you turn the screen back on manually however, it stays on no matter if you hold it in your hand or up to your head.

This is a pretty intuitive feature since you’re not going to be looking at the screen when it’s pressed against your ear, and there’s no reason to let it waste battery life that way. A foreseeable problem, however, could be is that when you take it away from your ear, the screen doesn’t automatically come back on. But it’s likely to be fixed in a ROM update if it is able to sense when the phone is or is not in a vertical listening position or the screen is covered up.
