Analyst Matt Thornton of Avian Securities predicts Nokia’s Tube could be released in the second half of this year, likely in Q4. The phone will have a lot to contend with considering the recent release of the 3G iPhone. In recent comparisons, the Nokia N95 has taken about 10 seconds longer than the 3G iPhone to download a web page, so it will really have to step up its game.
The S60 has a great advertisement up on YouTube for its upcoming S60 Touch UI. The UI has many iPhone’esq qualities about it such as the cover flow interface. You can see from the video that some of the touch aspects are a little counterintuitive. When you drag something, it will move in the opposite direction that you are dragging, unlike reality. Very sleek though.
iCall is a great new piece of software that will potentially save you a bundle in minutes. Although the program is still in serious beta form and not ready for public consumption, the idea is great and the video has sold me. Go here to test out the beta!
Windows Live, as of today, is available for the Nokia S60. For all you Symbian fans this may be of no concern, but if you’d like to have an operating system that can really talk to your PC as well as sync with all your MS products, then come to the dark side Luke.
The play.com store is stating that Nokia’s N96 will ship July 31st for 600 British pounds, or $1,185. Although the phone is incredibly pro and will make for a wonderful media device, I can’t imagine paying that much. Maybe you can lock yourself into a new phone plan where you sign a contract with the devil and pay with the blood of your first born, then the phone is only $199.99.
According to a Nokia support forum administrator, N95 NAM (N95-3) owners will be getting a long-awaited firmware update, issued by Nokia in early June. The following statement is from the Nokia Software Update team:
Nokia is aware of consumers’ demand for a new software release, and our development teams are working to produce the new software as soon as possible. We estimate that the new software should be available early June.
Please note that your mobile service provider, operator, or carrier may not have approved the latest Nokia device firmware available. Nokia produces many different variants of each product (for different countries and languages) and not all variants will have the latest Nokia device firmware. It is our priority to update all variants as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any delay.
The Nseries by Nokia are famous for their superior and unique design. They have the look and feel of a camcorder, messenger and phone all in one. The camera quality is superior to all others with a 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens on the N96. Unfortunately, according to a reliable Nokia Blog source, it could be more than two years before a flip-and-swivel successor makes its way to market. The source placed the time line at 2010 but failed to specify a quarter or any additional details.
All About Symbian broke the news that the Italian mobile site Cellulare-Magazine got their hands on an N96 and released a 10 minute review of the phone on YouTube. The phone is extremely sleek and has more media functionality than my home computer. The phone comes with the standard N-Gage gaming keys and will have access to the N-Gage platform. Don’t expect a long battery life because the device uses a 950 mAh battery that can’t be relied upon.
The Nokia E71 is a long awaited smartphone and it seems that more details regarding the phone will come in the form of an announcement by Nokia as soon as Thursday May 8. So far, we know that the E71 comes with a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, 3G, WiFi and is really slim at 112 x 57 x 10 mm. Expect the US version to be 3G too.

Mobile-ent.biz’s most recent editorial is about the amount of choice available in the mobile industry. The article uses Sociology professor Barry Schwartz’s book The Paradox of Choice, whose thesis is that too much choice makes consumers unhappy, as the basis for the article. Personally, I have to disagree and say that I will never [...]
The BlackBerry has always been a really unsatisfying device in terms of media. Getting a movie on your BlackBerry involves downloading 3rd party software and although music is a simple drag-and-drop, there aren’t any dedicated keys. To make up for this, RIM is working on a new application for the BlackBerry that will “transfer your [...]
