In these times of economic uncertainty, everyone wants to keep their spending to a minimum. There are many features in Windows Mobile that can help you save money while maintaining the productivity advantages of a smartphone. Most carriers trying to sell you a phone won’t tell you about these things, and most other “smartphones” aren’t even capable of some of these features.
Is it really worth it to pay an extra $30-$60 per month for internet access on your phone? For some, yes it’s definitely worth it, but for others? You’re already paying for it at work and at home. You’re only really out on the weekends, and then you’re probably too busy to care about email or internet news anyway.

How-to turn off SMS “WhoCalled” alerts on the iPhone

I don’t mean to link bait or anything with the title, because the answer is just “call customer service“, but what an annoying feature! Here is what happens when I miss a call:

  • The phone rings, and I let it go because I’m busy with something else.
  • They leave a voicemail. I see that.
  • Then I get an SMS notification about the voicemail. Thank I know.
  • Then I get an SMS notification about the missed call. Yeah I get it!
  • Then I have all the above information copied in my logs, just in case I somehow got amnesia and forgot.
  • I’ve recently had the features turned off but I couldn’t help explaining to customer service that this sort of notification process is borderline harassment.

    Internet Sharing
    on lets you utilize your Windows Mobile device as a data modem. Hardly revolutionary … but what is cool is that if you have Activesync 4.2 or greater or Windows Vista you don’t need to install any drivers or do any PC configuration to get it to work. You simply plug the device in and it will automatically connect to our default APN and use the device as your laptop modem. It replaces the old modem link application. It will work over both USB and Bluetooth.
