BlackBerry Storm launch roundup

BlackBerry Storm

After spending time with the BlackBerry Storm during BBDC, it was a little hard to leave it behind. Thankfully, I did so with full knowledge that it would be returning to my awaiting hands very soon. Here’s the latest in BlackBerry Storm launch rumors for a variety of carriers:

PhoneArena is reporting that Verizon will begin selling the BlackBerry Storm in corporate Nov 15th and the following day at BestBuy locations. Ever since our initial Nov 4th post, the release date has been pushed back one day at a time. While we’ve been currently hearing the 19th from our sources, it’s close enough to not matter too much.

BlackBerry News seems to be wavering back and forth between a November 7th and 11th release date for the Vodafone BlackBerry Storm. CSRs place pricing at around £350 ($538 USD). Please take a look at BBNews’ photos for this post, it made my day.

As we reported earlier today, it appears that Bell may receive the BlackBerry Storm on November 21st, shortly after the two releases above. I wonder if Telus will try to undercut them by releasing on the 20th.

Video of the Vodafone BlackBerry Storm in action

Here is a video we got from CrackBerry. Although the video is a whopping 3 minutes long, it showcases all the features we’ve been looking forward to on the BlackBerry Storm. Something I’m curious about is the landscape keyboard: will it turn for everything? As Doug has mentioned before, I’m an iPhone user and one of the problems I have is that the keyboard will go landscape for Safari, but not SMS. I’ll add this to my giant list of problems with the iPhone. Anyways, this is a BlackBerry site and RIM knows its stuff, so I’m sure they’ve figured it out. Enjoy!

Another Vodafone BlackBerry Storm commercial

Not much to say here, as the BlackBerry Storm hype train continues worldwide. If previous Storm news wasn’t enough to make you want the device, I doubt this video will push you over, but it is cool how they imply that the Storm gives you semi-super powers.

Vodafone CMO promotes the BlackBerry Storm (updated with pricing)

UPDATE: I just noticed that the Times Online is reporting that Vodafone UK will be offering the BlackBerry Storm for free with a £35 tariff and an 18 month contract. Who among us thinks that Verizon will match that price?

For those who are still not sold on the BlackBerry Storm, I’d recommend watching the video above of Vodafone’s Chief Marketing Officer, Frank Rovekamp. Rovekamp gives a quick, top level summary of why people should want the BlackBerry Storm 9500, which is good for those who get confused by things like cellular frequency bands and haptic screens.

Vodafone BlackBerry Storm commercial

According to CrackBerry, the Storm will be officially announced tomorrow and the launch commercial is available on the web. There are plans right now to start shipping the device on the 28th, so hopefully this announcement gets people hyped enough to put in some orders.

What do you guys think of the ad? Personally, I think it’s a great commercial for introducing a typically enterprise driven device to consumers, but it could have showcased a few more features. I would have liked to see games and more focus on the browser. Also, a small demonstration of the cut and paste would have really turned on some potential users.
