The Portuguese company Ndrive, will be releasing a device called the Ndrive S400. The S400 comes with HSDPA, quad-band EDGE, and a 2,8” VGA 640×480 touch screen, 3 megapixel autofocus cam, G-Sensor (i.e. tilt sensor), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, internal GPS and two processors (Marvell and Qualcomm). This could be a rumor but the Portuguese websites I’ve been looking at seem to handle the info as fact. I think this will be the first dual processor device powered by WinMo.

In this video, Norwegian iPhone developer Erik Kristiansen has apparently developed an application that will let you boot into Windows Mobile on your iPhone. Gearlog has gone ahead and called shenanigans on this story, saying they’ve made some calls and exposed this as a viral internet marketing campaign. My question: Why this video? What kind of marketing is this? (Okay, so the second question is really more of an exclamation of disbelief.) Have any of you tried out Sonic Emotion? Is it worth all this attention?

Ever wish your phone cackled like a witch every time your phone rang? Me neither. But someone out there must, right? Well, just in case that person is you - go ahead and head on over to the Windows Mobile site to pick through some scary Halloween ringtones for your phone. They’ve got howls and hoots and… vampire noises? Hrmm. Teeth gnashing? Maybe vampires laugh a certain way or make creepy cartoon noises when they walk? Huh.

Spore, the epic game created by EA, is now available for Windows Mobile. The mobile version, is not quite as rich as the PC/Mac version, but it’s still cool to have on your device. What would be really awesome, is if the two platforms worked together. I know a lot of people would appreciate being able to accomplish the less graphic and processor intensive parts of the game, and then upload it to their full version on the computer. This type of cross-platform gaming would be especially good for something like WoW. You could level up your character at the bus stop, and then plug him back into the full game. Anyways, the future isn’t here yet but it’s coming.

Zune is a great mp3 player in the sense that it doesn’t have all the DRM hassles that you get with the iPod. You can share music with other Zune people and nobody will give you grief for it. The player will now be available for Windows Mobile users too. Hopefully, we’ll be able to share music with other WinMo users. I’m thinking this feature will become available with Windows Mobile 7.

Samsung is preparing to launch its latest Windows Mobile phone, the SGH-i740. The i740 will be running WinMo 6.1 and will come loaded with a 3 megapixel camera, 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen with VibeTonz haptics feedback, built-in GPS receiver, FM radio, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, and a microSD expansion slot.
The device is likely to launch in developing countries because it lacks WiFi and 3G meaning it will be less competitive in NA and Europe. We will keep you posted on release dates and pricing when it becomes available.

Tech Radar did an interview with Andy Lees, the Senior Vice-President of Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business. The interview was focused around the issue of how WinMo is going to survive faced with the iPhone and Google Android.
Do your relationships with mobile operators help you compete with the iPhone and Android?
One of the things that we can do slightly differently to Apple and Google is that they have what I think of as the ‘over the top’ scenario - they’re not doing anything to enhance the mobile operator’s ability to create data plans.
They just want the operator to create the ‘$30 all you can eat’ data plan – what the number is varies around the world. Our approach is to be very operator friendly, so we offer tiered services they can use to have different price plans.
I would tend to agree with Apple in this case. “All you can eat” data plans are the only way that we’re going to get a mobile web experience comparable to what we have on a desktop. If we aren’t moving in that direction, we may as well just give up now.

There have been rumors and pictures floating around for a while, but we’re finally seeing the official announcement of the HTC Diamond. The phone runs Windows Mobile 6.1, and packs GPS, HSDPA, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, a 3.2 megapixel camera and 4 gigs of storage into a very tight little package. It features a new touch interface for the 2.8 inch screen, and it can also switch from portrait to landscape mode while browsing the web. It also comes with a custom YouTube application, which should make QuicklyBored happy. It’ll hit Europe, Asia, and the Middle East in a couple months, with a North American release coming in the second half of this year. Full list of specs and a picture gallery after the jump.
